Colorado Division of Wildlife
Working with Colorado's Division of Wildlife, the Williams' Exploration and Production group in Parachute has turned 1,400 acres of land the company owns and develops into wildlife habitat. The land has been overgrazed by cattle when it was purchased by Williams in 2001, but now supports a mix of wildlife ranging from native wild turkey and mule deer to rainbow and brown trout.
With the help of a property manager possessing expertise in wildlife biology and range management, the project began with a year's worth of work that included taking wildlife inventories, producing accurate maps of the area, recording wildlife observations and considering potential management options.
As an added benefit, the Division of Wildlife is using the land as a training ground for its youth hunting program.
