Production Basins
Piceance
Located in northwestern Colorado, the company's activities in the Piceance Basin are
primarily in three geographic areas: Grand Valley, Parachute and Rulison. Recently,
Williams also acquired lease holdings in the Ryan Gulch and Trail Ridge areas. Drilling
activities target the tight, lenticular gas sands of the Williams Fork formation of the
MesaVerde group.
Powder River
Located in northeast Wyoming, the basin has thick coals at shallow depths, including large
areas with multiple coal seam potential. Production is from Fort Union coal seams. First
production here primarily came from the Wyodak coals. Lately, the Big George coal — a
thick continuous seam from 30-200 feet thick — is fast becoming a big proven
performer, too.
San Juan
Located in northwest New Mexico and southwest Colorado, the San Juan Basin is the second
largest gas reserve in the lower 48 with an estimated 22 trillion cubic feet of remaining
reserves. Natural gas is produced from the Fruitland, MesaVerde and Dakota and other
stacked formations. The Fruitland formation is a coal-seam formation.
