The City of Brotherly Love is hosting the 2011 Shale Gas Insight conference Sept. 7-8. The industry event is presented by the Marcellus Shale Coalition. Two people from Williams will be there to talk about our reclamation work in the state and the “rich gas” that is being produced primarily in western PA. “Rich gas” is natural gas that contains other valuable hydrocarbons such as ethane, propane and butane. These products – commonly known as natural gas liquids or NGLs – are used in home heating, plastics and in manufacturing. It’s important for producers to remove these NGLs for two reasons. First, it creates additional revenue from basically the same mineral extraction process. Second, and more importantly, NGLs must be removed prior to delivery of natural gas to end-users to ensure that no liquids form in the distribution pipeline system or in the end-user’s pipeline system. To get the rich gas ready for such pipeline shipping specs, it goes through a few more steps than dry gas, such as treating, dehydrating and processing. Williams performs these services in addition to being an energy producer, as well. Our own Rory Miller will be at the conference in Philly to speak about two specific concepts that Williams is pursuing to enable production of rich gas in western Pennsylvania – Atlantic Access and Confluence Pipeline. Rory has more than 20 years of industry experience. Frank Canneto, an Environmental, Health and Safety specialist with our company in Moon Township, also will talk about best practices for creating and maintaining wetlands. Frank is serving on a panel of speakers who will highlight successful restoration projects. Born and raised in Connecticut, Frank has been in the industry for nearly 20 years – 11 of those with Williams. Frank holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences.
