About the author: Hi, I’m Lexie. I am a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!) and earned a degree in Strategic Communications. Three short days ago I started my summer internship with the Communications and Strategic Outreach department in my hometown of Tulsa, Okla.
As a communications major, I studied the ins and outs, effects and benefits of many different types of mass media. People want what is most convenient for them at the touch of a button. This is why the demand for digital media expands every single day.
The communications industry constantly changes, and as a communications professional it is my job to keep up with this. Businesses, nonprofits, students, your brother/cousin/grandma are now using forms of mass media to communicate daily, especially social media. We turn to sites like Twitter and Facebook for updates instead of watching our favorite news station (if you still have one of those). This is just one example of why social media platforms play a vital role for every business in any industry.
