For Williams, support for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs is important since those areas produce our next generation of well-qualified and educated employees. At various locations we have provided grants for STEM classrooms including an outdoor science lab we sponsored at a public school in Bixby, Oklahoma.
Christa Askins, sixth grade science teacher at Bixby North Intermediate, says, “We are so appreciative of Williams and their commitment to bring STEM to life for our students. The outdoor classroom has allowed us to expand their horizons in a way that makes learning fun and engaging. Since the plants are all Oklahoma natives and readily available, we hope that this will inspire students to continue their learning in their own backyard.”
In the outdoor lab students are provided a variety of lessons involving conservation, ecology, habitat and wildlife. A highlight of the classroom is a special garden designed and planted by students to attract butterflies and other pollinating insects.
