Hi, my name is Scotty and I graduated from Oklahoma State University in May of 2015 with a degree in Management Information Systems. I interned with Williams the summer before coming on as a full-time employee in the rotational program. I’m currently working in my first rotation at our headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I chose to work at Williams for two reasons: the program and the people.
First of all, the rotational program was the perfect fit for me coming out of school. I liked Information Technology and was excited to work in the discipline when I graduated from college, but like many students, I still had no idea what I liked best or what I wanted to do long term. As a part of the program, I will do at least three rotations in my first three or four years with the company. I will work in different areas while building my personal network and brand, and will learn everything I can in these rotations to become a more valuable asset to the company.
The second reason that I came to work at Williams was the people. The people are a reflection of the culture, and the culture is simply a product of the people that work there. I gained a good sense of the people and culture from my internship, which made my full-time decision easy. After I began my first rotation, it was clear that the people wanted to invest in my development.
During my first week, a colleague from my group who I had met during my internship, but didn’t know that well, set up time to talk with me. He told me that he was always available to answer any questions that I had and that I could come to him for advice on how to navigate any situation. A year and a half later, he is still my mentor, has helped me in more ways than I can count and is always there when I need him. He’s not just a co-worker, he’s my mentor, my friend, and someone that truly cares about my career, my development, and me as an individual.
I’m not sure what my future holds or what else I will experience in my career at Williams, but I can tell you that the program I’m in and people I’ll meet along the way will play a huge role in my growth and development!
