Our newly released Sustainability Report details the many ways we are leveraging our large-scale natural gas network for the benefit of people and planet today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
“Williams was founded 116 years ago on hard work and a commitment to do the right thing. Today, those principles continue to energize our employee culture, innovate our problem solving and power the promise of a sustainable energy future,” said Williams President and CEO Alan Armstong.
Here are a few highlights from the newly released Sustainability Report:
- Williams became the first large-scale midstream company in the U.S. to join OGMP 2.0, an international methane emissions reporting initiative, and approved a Scope 1 methane intensity target of achieving a 0.0375% methane intensity of operated assets by 2028.
- Williams was awarded two grants under the DOE’s Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE) Program and partnered with the University of Wyoming on a feasibility study to evaluate permanently storing carbon safely near our Echo Springs gas plant.
- Since 2018, expansion projects and acquisitions led to a 47% increase in Williams’ energy throughput, while our emissions intensity decreased by 26%, indicating a strong ability to efficiently transport natural gas as we grow. This illustrates progress on Williams’ updated greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal to decrease intensity-based carbon emissions by 30% from 2018 by 2028.
- Williams partnered with 14 universities and 28 technical schools in the U.S. to recruit for entry level roles and internship opportunities. To strengthen our partnerships, we began funding scholarships at 16 technical schools to help students attend programs that align with the skills needed in operations roles.
- We demonstrated our commitment to communities by contributing $13.1 million to 2,142 organizations across 47 states and Washington, D.C. Additionally, employees volunteered at 92 nonprofit organizations in 19 states during Williams Volunteer Week.
- Williams 10 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are thriving, with total membership exceeding 1,350 employees, or 25% of our workforce.
- With a core value of being responsible stewards, Williams supported biodiversity throughout our operating areas, including facilitating the purchase of Miller Mountain, a new addition to Pinchot State Forest in Northeast Pennsylvania. The 2,500-acre forested property was purchased in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and The Conservation Fund to ensure its permanent protection and public access.
- We were again recognized across several key rankings for sustainability leadership – including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), CDP Climate Change Questionnaire and MSCI – for the company’s commitment to transparency and governance around climate change and other critical topics.
