Number of years with Williams: Right at 38 years
Number of years retired: 2.5
How have you been spending your time in retirement? I feel like I am still trying to develop a ‘retirement routine’ but I don’t think I’m there yet. So far, I have been spending my time performing community service, pursuing educational opportunities, fitness/recreation and some travel.
Are you involved in any community/volunteer activities? I spend two mornings a week volunteering at the Wesley Community Center food pantry. I serve on the board of the Hermann Park Conservancy (a nonprofit citizens’ organization dedicated to the stewardship and improvement of a 445-acre intercity park). I serve on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo committee. And I continue to work with United Way Greater Houston during the Fall and Spring campaign seasons as a Loaned Executive.
So far, what has been your favorite thing about retirement? I have attended classes through Rice University’s School of Continuing Studies covering topics including iPhone Photography, Migratory Birds of the Gulf Coast and The Sun and the Solar System.
Anything else you would like to add? I have been fortunate to remain in contact with several colleagues from some of the customer companies that I worked with during my time with Williams. And if it’s too hot, or too cold for golf, swimming or running, I enjoy reading.
