Books for students’ summer reading

Tulsa’s Sequoyah Elementary students open their new books from Williams on Friday.

Williams supports local education in all of our locations and in our headquarters city of Tulsa, we’re proud of our employees who serve as regular mentors and volunteers at our at-risk partner-in-education school, Sequoyah Elementary. We’ve complemented their efforts by providing all 623 students at Sequoyah, a book of their own for summer reading.

“We are so grateful for this wonderful gift from Williams,” said Dianna Potts, school administrator. “Kids from poverty just don’t have a home library or access to reading materials. They are proud to have their own personal book, which will also help keep them interested in reading during those months they are not in school.”

Readers are leaders, say third graders at Sequoyah Elementary. They also say “Thank you Williams!”

The books were distributed at all-school festivities that marked the end of the school year. Each student could choose their own book to take home.

Each week this school year, 25 Williams employees served as either Reading Partners or Math Mentors. In addition, dozens of employees volunteered at the school during the Tulsa Area United Way’s Day of Caring, participating in painting, planting and clean-up projects.
